“Skips Auburn” aka “Hickory” is a 6yr old, 15.1hh, AQHA gelding, with a beautiful dappled buckskin coat. This boy is a total puppy dog, fall asleep in your arms, melt your heart type of dude. He is incredibly sweet, kind, safe, and honest. He is safe for anyone on the trails, and can make anyone look good in the ring! Hickory is very versatile, and the ultimate trail partner! Hickory is a teachers pet, who thrives on pleasing his rider, and taking good care of them.
In the barn, Hickory has zero bad habits. He is a gem in his stall; and so quiet that you could forget that he is even there. He will hang his head out and ask for love, then proceed to fall asleep in your arms. He is a total lover and adores attention. He can live in or out, causes absolutely zero drama with his herd, and will drop what he is doing to greet you at the fence, or in the pasture. I think he likes humans more than horses. Hickory has incredible ground manners, and he is safe for kids and beginners to work with. He stands on the cross ties or straight tied to be groomed, tacked, bathed, etc. He is good for the farrier and vet.
Hickory is an amazing trail partner. Any level rider can enjoy him and have fun adventures with him. He is safe and gentle, goes alone and with a group, will lead or follow. Hickory will be the first one through scary obstacles such as rushing water, high bridges, narrow pathways, you name it. He is not spooky and safe with traffic, bikes, dogs, wildlife and more. This boy is extremely sure footed, I have never ridden a horse that will actually lower his head to watch the ground in tricky areas. You can drop your reins down steep hills and trust that he will sit back, and use his brain to get down safely. He will maneuver through rocks, over logs, and will plop into the water any chance he gets. He loves to play in the lake, and never says no. I have asked Hickory to do some sketchy stuff and he has never argued, he just says yes ma’am and gives you his all. He packed a child around on a long trail ride, through water, over bridges, and never made a wrong step. He stood tied to a tree, with a horse tied to him, as we sat down and ate lunch. I have also trail ridden him with no bridle, just a neck rope!!!!! If you want to show off to your friends, or just feel safe, this is the boy for you!!!!!
Hickory is the same horse every ride, whether he sits for weeks or not, tack up and go out with confidence. He steps off of the trailer in new places as if he’s lived there all along. Load him up all by himself and take him out riding, he does not holler for friends or act any differently when alone.
He loads and trailers well, and will back off of a trailer or turn around to get off.
Hickory rides western, english and bareback. His gaits are extremely smooth and comfortable. He has smooth transitions and listens to voice commands as well. Hickory will walk, jog, trot, canter, knows his leads and is started on a lead change. He moves off of leg very nicely, and he is nice and soft. Ask him to ride collected or ride on the buckle. He neck reins, pivots, side passes, started on a half pass, ask for a big stop or bring him down easily through the gaits, backs up, bends off of your leg, and over all is a blast to ride. His gaits are very adjustable. He toted around a beginner kid for a little lesson, and is just such an honest dude. Hickory has been lightly started over cross rails as well! Hickory has also sorted cows, and has done a little bit of other fun ranch things.
Whether you are looking for a trusty trail buddy, or to compete, Hickory has the potential to do it all! He is currently set up to head in any direction. I truly adore this horse, and I really wish I had the room to keep them all. Hickory is as easy keeper with no maintenance. He is hypp n/h, with no symptoms or issues. I feed him triple crown low starch as a precaution, but he is asymptomatic. He has no health or soundness issues. Hickory never asks for anything other than to be your best friend.
One rainy and cold day, I decided that I was going to play around with teaching Hickory to bow, and he learned in five short minutes!!!!! He is incredibly smart and teachable!!!
Here is a beautiful gelding with a heart of gold, and everything to offer. Don’t miss the opportunity to make this special horse yours!!! Hickory is up to date, and shipping can be arranged anywhere! Please don’t hesitate to reach out for further information!
