Skipper is the kind of young gelding that gets you excited about what he will become. With his stocky build, pretty red roan color he has all the eye appeal you could ask for. At just 2 years old, he has a great foundation underneath him and has already been exposed to a lot for his age. He’s been ridden outside, around the ranch and cattle, through our obstacle course, and has been hauled and exposed to different places and situations.
Skipper has a nice handle for his age, he is is soft throughout his body, moving all body parts. He lopes nice circles and has a good stop to him. Skipper is responsive to his cues and has a willing attitude that makes him enjoyable to work with. He has roped and tracked the dummy, and has been through our obstacle course with logs, tarps, pool noodles, the teeter-totter bridge and more. He’s also been around cattle, water, kids and more. We have given Skipper the opportunity to experience the kinds of things we feel are important when starting a young horse.
Skipper isn’t a finished product, and that’s part of what makes him so exciting. He has his whole future ahead of him. You can take him down the trail and make a dependable trail horse out of him, put him on cattle and develop him into a ranch or rope horse, continue putting a handle on him for an all-around horse, or take him in a completely different direction and see what he can do in the show pen.
He has a good start, a willing mind, and plenty of time to grow into whatever job his next owner has in mind. We think Skipper has the makings of a really nice all around gelding and are excited to see where he goes from here. He’s a nice quality prospect with no hump or buck.
