Tourist - A real unicorn: safe and confidence-building for a beginner, youth or select rider, competitive enough for the show pen, and genuinely enjoyable out on the trail.
Our history with Tourist goes all the way back to his yearling year, when we purchased him for a client through the NSBA sale in Tulsa, OK. We were responsible for all of his original training - from ground work to his first time in the show pen. After that first show, he sold to a retired gentleman who has successfully showed him in the ranch classes. When his owner decided to switch gears and pursue the reining horse route, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase Tourist back.
Since coming back to us, our 12 year old son has been doing the majority of his riding and showing. He has proven to be exactly the horse we remembered: willing, dependable and versatile.
He has his ROM with the American Ranch Horse Association, with accomplishments in Amateur Ranch Trail, Amateur Ranch Riding and Amateur Ranchmanship and Conformation.
He's competitive in the ranch events, but certainly don't rule him out if you enjoy western riding, horsemanship, equitation, trail, etc. Tourist has a really nice lead change, a spin, a slow comfortable jog, an excellent extended jog and a beautiful soft lope that makes him stand out in the ranch classes and an enjoyable ride.
The best thing about this horse is his versatility in being able to dial up or down depending on his rider. He is beginner safe and the type of horse that will give his rider confidence versus taking it away. He does not complicate things, he's not complicated at all actually. He's got the education, experience and mindset that is perfect for those that are learning, yet looking for a horse to be competitively on, while staying safe. Tourist will take care of you!
If you are a more competitive rider, ask him to step up. He's got the education and physical ability and willingness to do so.
STEP OUTSIDE THE ARENA
If showing isn't your priority-or you simply want a horse to enjoy while you aren't competing- get out on the trails! Tourist is phenomenal out on the trails! Take him out alone, in a group, lead or follow, he will do it all.
It's not everyday you find a kid safe horse, that's competitive in the show pen and safe out on the trails.
This horse makes us proud in a lot of ways! You wont regret making him an addition to your barn. You will probably give us a call and ask for another one just like him!
