Everyone meet Shorty!
Shorty is a 5-year-old sorrel gelding pony standing a perfect 38 inches tall, and he is the kind of little pony that every family hopes to find. He has been a big part of our daily routine and has proven himself time and time again to be safe, dependable, and gentle for the kids.
Shorty has been hauled all around the countryside helping dad check cows, and lately he has taken on the very important job of taking care of the little ones. He has been our 5-year-old son Townes’ main mount, helping him learn the ropes—literally. Shorty has spent plenty of time teaching Townes how to rope the calf sled, standing patiently and handling the commotion like a seasoned ranch pony should.
This little gelding has been rode extensively through rough, rocky terrain and up and down trails, always staying sure-footed, steady, and safe. Whether you’re riding through the pasture, checking cattle in the evenings, or just enjoying a quiet trail ride, Shorty stays calm and confident wherever you point him.
Around the house and in the barn, Shorty is an absolute gentleman on the ground. He happily stands while the kids brush him, saddle him, and even bathe him, making him the perfect pony for young riders to learn responsibility and confidence with. He is easy to mount and dismount, which makes getting on and off simple and safe for the little ones.
Under saddle, Shorty rides around with a nice direct rein and a good, safe stop. He has also been around the barrels a few times and is showing all the signs of becoming a fun little playday pony for a young rider wanting to try their hand at events.
Shorty is also traffic safe, will cross tarps without hesitation, and takes new situations in stride. On the ranch he has helped us check heifers in the evenings, and he enjoys pushing our roping steers around the house, proving he’s not just a kid’s pony—he’s a useful little ranch partner too. One thing we really appreciate about Shorty is his independence; he is confident going out on his own and does not need another horse to get a job done.
