When it comes to ponies, everyone wants that elusive "perfect size". One that is small enough for the 3 and 4 year old children to ride, but also big enough for older children to run around on.
"Perfect" is the word that we keep using daily around Flash. Nicknamed, "Mr. Perfect", and "The Saint", this boy stands at a delightful 11.3 hands high, which is just big enough to keep up with the big horses and just small enough to not be intimidating for new riders. At five years old, Flash has his entire life in front of him for all the adventures your child can dream up. He is as steady and dependable as they come; faithfully caring for all levels of riders, from beginners who are too timid to sit up in the saddle, to the bold ones who feel the need to reenact a cavalry charge every time they ride. Although, we must be honest... Speed is not his strong point! This gentleman prefers a walk or a relaxed jog most of the time and loves doing trails both solo and in groups.
Your child will be delighted when they find out that they can ride Flash either in traditional Western tack (he uses a side pull bridle), OR they can ride off into the sunset bareback and bridleless just like in the movies. And with that PERFECT color on this pony, you certainly won't struggle with family photoshoots with your young cowgirl/cowboy. In the summer, Flash's sooty buckskin color lightens to a dappled smoky gold; in winter he deepens to a burnished richness, with a few of those dapples still peeking out!
With his perfect manners, Flash does not need to be tied when getting his feet picked, or when he's groomed, blanketed or tacked up. He'll stand patiently for as long as things take. He also does not need lunging - ever - before a ride, and doesn't get a cold back after a long break. His sweet and mellow attitude just goes with the flow of things!
Being a children's pony, who has been ridden extensively by children around here, Flash has some useful buttons on him! He has been trained to verbal cues as well as physical cues, which we find is easier for the very young riders. Need him to come closer for mounting? Tell him, "Line up!" and he'll meet you at whatever your trying to mount from (fencing? Tailgates? Tree branches? He's seen it all). Did he stop to eat a juicy bit of grass during the ride? Tell him, "Attention!" or "Attention please!" and he'll stop his munching and listen to his rider again; much easier than playing tug-of-war with the reins! And of course he responds to the basic verbal cues like, "Back", "Come", and even "Side" for a side step. Our favorite button of his, is that he is trained to stop if he feels that a young rider is losing their balance in the saddle.
Flash is an easy keeper with no health issues or special feed needs. He is currently barefoot, but does require front shoes if he is ridden on hard surfaces. He trailers beautifully, backs up like a performance reining horse, and yields front and rear quarters with only a light touch of a finger or even just a hand motion. He comes with a fresh Coggins and a new health certificate for travel. Flash is ready and waiting to be out in your barn with a big bow on him for Christmas!
